Happy New Year's Day!
Well, it's not exactly New Year's Day. Out of curiousity, I looked up the phrase "April Fool's Day" from a book I picked up at the library. For those interested, here's what I found out... Believe it or not, April 1st was originally New Year's Day during the 16th century. Why? New Year's Day originally fell on Holy Week. It was specifically March 25th, but people waited to celebrate it on April 1st. From the earliest periods of history, people of all nations bestowed gifts upon their neighbors on New Year's Day. In 1564, the country France took the lead and shifted New Year's Day to January 1, the first day of the year. When New Year's Day was transferred to January 1st, people in France paid mock visits to their friends on April 1st, with the object of fooling them into the belief that date was still New Year's Day. Hence came the phrase, April Fool's Day. : )

I can attest to your comment, Karen... On April Fool's Day, I had a doctor's appointment. When I came back to work from my appointment, my co-workers planted a fake mouse underneath my paperwork. I just saw the bottom half of its body and its tail sticking out from the paperwork. When I saw it, I shrieked... it scared the hell out of me! My co-workers got the fake mouse (which was really a cat toy) from the veterinary clinic next door. When my co-worker pulled out the mouse from the paperwork to reveal it was fake, I found out it had pink ears. If only I had known... : )
